Spanish giants FC Barcelona are reportedly plotting a swap deal with Premier League outfit, Manchester City, which would see Joao Cancelo joining the Catalan side and Nelson Semedo going the other way, according to The Telegraph.

City signed Cancelo from Italian side Juventus last summer, but the Portuguese right-back has struggled to establish his name as the first choice at Pep Guardiola's side. Indeed, the 25-year-old has only made 11 appearances for the Premier League champions in the English top-flight.

He has had to play second-fiddle to Kyle Walker at City and might be interested in a move elsewhere. However, Cancelo is under contract at the Manchester side at least until 2025.

A report in The Telegraph claims Barcelona are interested in acquiring the services of the Portuguese international. However, the uncertainty looming over the financial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, that has halted footballing activities, would see Barcelona preferring a swap deal, that would also involve Semedo.

Meanwhile, Semedo, who joined Barcelona in 2017, has featured in more than 100 games for the La Liga behemoths. The 26-year-old made 21 appearances for the club in the Spanish top-flight this season, before matches were suspended due to the virus outbreak. Semedo is contracted with the club until 2022.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen when the summer transfer window will be opened, given the current circumstances.
