The eternal debate as to who is better between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has continued to rage on ever since the duo made their professional debuts, with both of them going to win an astonishing 11 Ballon d'Or awards between them while winning innumerable professional and personal honours.

There is no doubt that they are two of the greatest players in the history of the sport and now GIVEMESPORT tried to settle the debate on who is better by putting out a poll on their page with over 300k people getting involved.

In the end it was the Portugal and Juventus superstar who came out on top by the slimmest margins with Ronaldo netting 51 percent of the votes while 49 percent of people voted for the Barcelona talisman.

A number of former and current legends of the sport have had their say on the matter both in the past and at present, with former Brazil and AC Milan star, Kaka too opening up on the issue.

"We are really lucky to watch them battle over the past 10 years and we are still watching them. I think Ronaldo needs to be thankful for Messi and Messi needs to be thankful for Ronaldo. They push each other to keep improving and want something more," he said on Instragram Live.

"I think Messi is a genius. The way he plays, the talent, it's amazing. Just unbelievable. Cristiano is a machine. It’s not just the way he’s strong, powerful and fast; he’s strong mentally. He always wants to win and play. To be the best. For me, that’s the most incredible thing he has.

“In the history of sport, they [Messi and Cristiano] are definitely in the top five. We are very lucky to have been able to see both of them.”
