Brazil legend has given his view on who he believes is the best player in the world at present and opened up on who is the greatest player in the history of the sport, with both of his picks not coming as a surprise.
The 79-year-old who won three World Cup titles during his career and holds the Guinness World Record as top scorer of all time believes that Juventus ace, Cristiano Ronaldo is the best of the current crop, though he remains the greatest player in the history of the sport.
Pelé:— Cristiano Ronaldo Fans (@CRonaldoLive) March 24, 2020
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world, he’s the most consistent and has dominated for 10 years.”pic.twitter.com/2Pp1RHernl
“Today the best player in the world is Cristiano Ronaldo. I think he’s the best, because he’s more consistent, but you can’t forget about [Lionel] Messi, of course, but he’s not a striker. It is a question that is difficult to answer. We cannot forget about Zico, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo," he said to YouTube channel Pilhado.
“And in Europe, Franz Beckenbauer and Johan Cruyff. Now, it’s not my fault, but I think Pele was better than them."
Pele made one glaring omission when talking about great players and it is no surprise that he did not take Diego Maradona's name, considering the duo have been involved in a heated debate in the past over who among the two is the best in the history of the sport.
