Brazil and Barcelona legend, Ronaldinho recently caused concern among his fans when it emerged that he was arrested by the Paraguayan authorities for travelling with a a falsified passport last week, with it also being reported that he is also being investigated for additional crimes.

The 39-year-old as understood to be invited to the country by a local casino owner and arrived on Wednesday to take part in a soccer clinic for children and a book launch, with the judge refusing to grant the Brazilian and his brother a house arrest amid fears that the former footballer would try to escape the country due to the attention the case is getting.

It has now been reported that his former Barcelona team-mate and six-time Ballon d'Or winner, Lionel Messi is determined to help his friend get out of prison by hiring four lawyers to take up his case - with it being estimated that he could end spending around €4million from his own pocket in order to free Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho was the best player in the world at the time that Messi emerged through the youth ranks and made a presence in the senior club squad, with it being understood that the Brazilian took the then youngster under his wing which led to friendship which remains to this day.
