Former Premier League striker Robbie Savage has made a sensational claim stating that Manchester United are just three new signings away from challenging Manchester City and Liverpool for the league title in the near future.

The Red Devils have struggled to come up with consistent performances throughout this season as they now aim to achieve a spot in the top four sides of England.

However, Savage believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to be given a massive £250m kitty in the summer in order to build a side that can challenge for the Premier League title in the near future. He thinks that after finally having added Bruno Fernandes, Solskjaer should go for a world-class defender, a solid playmaker and a new attacking option up front.

Revealing in his column for the Daily Mirror, Savage said, "If Solskjaer was handed £250 million to go out and sign central defender Kalidou Koulibaly, playmaker Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho up front, Solskjaer's best team would be capable of giving Liverpool and Manchester City a run for their money next season."

He continued, "In an earlier column this season, I said United were miles away from Liverpool and City. But if they can beat other clubs to those major signings -- and Champions League football would be the best way to do that -- I now think a return towards the top end is achievable with one good summer in the transfer market."

Savage also knew that many would disagree with him, which is why he added, "Before you rush for your keypads to disagree, consider the facts. This season, United have beaten Chelsea three times. They have beaten City twice. They have beaten Tottenham. And they are the only side to have taken a point from Liverpool in the Premier League."

He concluded, "It's taken seven years, since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, to reach this stage, but I'm calling it now. Land those three big signings in the summer, and Manchester United will be back in business."

Sancho is reportedly ready to quit Borussia Dortmund this summer while Grealish is trying to help Aston Villa stay up in the Premier League. Koulibaly has been linked to United for quite some time now and this summer could see him finally coming to Old Trafford.
