Teenage sensation, Erling Braut Haaland is setting the footballing landscape on fire this season due to his goalscoring exploits and has rapidly emerged as arguably the best young striker in the world.

The youngster who was wanted by numerous top European clubs in the January transfer window, eventually decided to move to Borussia Dortmund and now Calciomercato claims that Barcelona too were interested in signing him, but choose not too due to two specific reasons.

The first one being that they believed that signing him would be too expensive for them and that his resulting contract would not be feasible while the second reason stated is that the club management were worried that he would not fit in their current tactical system.

The above might come as a surprise to many considering that the Catalan giants are desperate for a striker following the injury to Luis Suarez, with the Uruguayan expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery.

Haaland for his part has been deadly in front of goal this term scoring 39 goals and registering eight assists in 29 appearances in all competitions for Austrian side RB Salzburg and Dortmund so far this season, for a total of 1903 minutes.

His contract with the German side runs till 2024 and if he continues in this vein, it will be a surprise if he isn't the subject of a bidding war among top European clubs in the near future.
