Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane escaped injury after being accidentally hit in the face by the boot of opposing defender Joseph Aidoo during his side's 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo.

In the 61st minute of yesterday's La Liga clash, the Frenchman was shouting instructions to his players when Celta defender Aidoo slipped as he tried to keep the ball from going out of play. Aidoo completely lost his balance, fell on his back and caught Zidane flush in the mouth with his left boot.

The two made sure each was OK before Aidoo ran back onto the pitch to rejoin the action.

After the full-time whistle, Zidane confirmed he was "fine" after the incident. "Yes, he hit me but anyway, I have to be there [on the touchline]," he told reporters.

The incident comes days after Zidane was involved in a car accident last Saturday on his way to training. Whatever orders the Madrid seemed to have been shouting out clearly seemed to help as Sergio Ramos put his side back in front just three minutes later from the penalty spot.

Kroos had wiped out Fyodor Smolov's seventh-minute opener and Santi Mina got a late equaliser for the visitors to see it end 2-2. Madrid are still one point ahead of second-placed Barcelona in the La Liga tabl, who picked up all three points against Getafe on Saturday.
