Former Barcelona winger Malcom has claimed that the skill of Lionel Messi is papering over the cracks at Barcelona.

Speaking to Marca, the winger opened up on his time at the club and claimed that the individual brilliance of the Argentine certainly helps the club out of tight spots.

"Yes [Messi’s quality does paper over the cracks at Barcelona], some of them, yes," he said.

"But with Leo, there’s [Luis] Suárez, [Antoine] Griezmann, [Ivan] Rakitić, [Frenkie] De Jong, Arthur [Melo], [Arturo] Vidal… lots of other players, too.

“It’s not just Leo, it’s the whole group. Leo is the best player in the world; sometimes he does crazy things and helps Barcelona out a lot."

Malcom joined Barcelona from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux at the end of the 2017/18 season but departed for Zenit St Petersburg just a year later, after failing to make enough of a mark.

However, the winger claimed that he had no ill will towards the club and was comfortable with the fact that it just didn't work out for him.

“No, no. Never [was I] misunderstood because I left Barcelona on good terms. I only wanted to play football.

“Every professional player wants to play, and Zenit wanted me to play and I chose Zenit.

“I didn’t have any problems, nor did I leave with problems; I still speak a bit with [Barcelona sporting director Eric] Abidal," he said.
