Craig Lewis, a former physical trainer of Portugal has opened up his time with the national team and especially the country's talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo - revealing that the striker worked exceptionally hard and would always spend additional time in the gym.

Lewis was part of the Portugal setup for seven months in 2010 which encapsulate the World Cup held in South Africa and despite the country eventually being knocked out by eventual winners, Spain in the round of 16 stage, he was full of praise for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

“From a personal point of view he works unbelievably hard. We would do optional sessions and he would always do them. He would be one of the seven or eight players that would do the additional time in the gym," he said to Express.

"Ronaldo is an absolute professional and it’s why he is still at the top of his game. He knows what he needs to do and how to perform regularly," Lewis added.

The 34-year-old is known to be one of the fittest athletes in the world, with the player himself placing an extra emphasis on his training and diet, along with getting optimal sleep as he looks to continue playing the sport well into his late 30's.
