Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has revealed that he wanted to play in both the Copa America and Olympics in 2016 but that he wasn’t allowed to by his then club Barcelona.

At the time, the Catalans had made a deal with Brazil which would allow Neymar to play in the Olympics but have him out of the Copa America. As a result, the Brazil star missed the Copa America that year.

Meanwhile, this year, a similar case has come up as both Copa America and the Olympics are set to take place in the summer. When asked about the possibility of playing in both, Neymar stated that it would be difficult with the club football season also beginning after the summer break.

"I'd like to play both, but I know it'll be difficult, there is a season to start at the club," the Brazilian said when asked about his plans for the summer, as per Marca.

He then recalled the incident with Barca back in 2016 but also reiterated that he would like to play in both this time.

"I'm available to play in both, but I think it's complicated. There's a season starting for the club then. In 2016 I wanted to play both, but Barcelona didn't let me. As such, I'll have to discuss it with the club, but I'd like to help Brazil."
