Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed that Iker Casillas is the eternal captain of the Galacticos in a presentation event for the latest edition of the Corazon Classic match.
The upcoming edition of the match will be played between Porto and Real Madrid on the 29th of March, which is earlier than the usual date as the remodeling work of the Santiago Bernabeu will be going on during the summer.
Speaking at the presentation, Perez praised Porto as a great European club that has its footing among legendary teams, while also highlighting that Porto and Madrid have had some players in common, citing the example of “eternal captain” Iker Casillas, who holds the record of the second-most appearances for the Merengues with 725 matches played.
"I appreciate the affection you have shown to join us for this touching game, to help those who need it most. Porto is a great European club,” he was quoted as saying by AS.
“It is a legendary club, loved in this country and admired at a world level. We have some players in common too such as our eternal captain Iker Casillas."
Porto vice-president Alipio Jorge Fernandes, meanwhile, thanked the Galacticos for inviting them to take part in the exhibition match.
"Real Madrid and Porto are friends and for this, the first word is thanks. It's obvious that Porto couldn't turn down the invitation from Real Madrid. We see it as a sign of our prestige."
