The UEFA Champions League group stage this season has seen a number of goals being scored and now Real Madrid star, Luka Modric's goal during their 3-1 win over Club Brugge has ensured that it was 307th of the group stage, which broke the previous all-time record.
Juventus' Gonzalo Higuain's strike against Bayer Leverkusen a few minutes later extended that record to 308, beating the record set by teams last season, where teams netted 306 goals in the group stage.

FC Salzburg forward, Erling Haaland scored the first goal of the campaign on the 17th of September while Bayern Munich hitman, Robert Lewandowski finished the group stage as the highest goal scorer of the competition with 10 to his name, with Haaland coming in second after scoring eight goals.
Despite Lewandowski's heroics, he failed to break Juventus' superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo's tally of 11 goals for most goals scored by an individual player in the 2015/16 season where he netted during his time with Real Madrid.
When it comes to points secured, Bayern finished the group stage with maximum points as they won all six of their group games, with a record goal difference of +19. The draw for the round of 16 is scheduled to take place on the 16th of December at Nyon, Switzerland.
