Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has stated that club captain Lionel Messi is impossible to replace. The talks of a Barcelona without the Argentine have already begun as he will be 33 by next season, which means the clock is ticking for him.

Despite being 32, Messi recently collected his 6th Ballon d’Or trophy. He is also currently leading the scoring charts in La Liga with 12 goals from 10 matches and also has 5 assists to his name.

Speaking about his impact, Bartomeu claimed that the fans of the club are lucky to have

witnessed such a player and also added that the Argentine is someone who will be impossible to replace, which is why Barcelona might be forced to play another way without him.

"We Barca fans have the good fortune to enjoy Messi every three days," Bartomeu said, as per AS.

"Leo is impossible to replace and when he will be here no more, we will be forced to play differently. I cannot say that we are already preparing for post-Messi, but it is true that we have already decided to bet on young players for a long time.”

Bartomeu also thinks that the Argentine has earned the right to decide when to end his time with Barca.

"For now, what we have to do is not worry, but enjoy it. I would like to make him an annuity contract as we have already done with [Andres] Iniesta. He has earned the right to decide when to say enough is enough.
