Juventus' sporting director, Fabio Paratici has laughed at suggestions that the club's star player, Cristiano Ronaldo is "finished", after he missed out on the Ballon d'Or award this year to fellow rival, Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo finished third in the Ballon d'Or standings behind Messi and Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk, with the 34-year-old preferring to snub the ceremony in Paris, instead opting to travel to Milan where he was presented with the 2018/19 Serie A "Best Player Award".

With Ronaldo currently 34, many believe that he is on a decline following his mixed performances so far this season. However, Paratici has found such speculations amusing, claiming that he deserved to win the Ballon d'Or this time around.

"Cristiano finished? Don't make me laugh. Ronaldo had a knee problem that didn't allow him to perform at his best, but now he's coming back stronger than before. For me, Ronaldo also deserved it last season, where he scored [13] goals in the Champions League, many of which were decisive," he said to Tuttosport, as quoted by Goal.

"Ronaldo also deserved the Ballon d'Or this season. He is a competitive animal. We have made a good investment with him, he has improved all of us. We must accept his hunger, it is what distinguishes him from others. Will he remain with Juventus? Of course."

It will be interesting to see how Ronaldo reacts to this latest snub, and while there is no doubt that he will look to add a sixth gong to his trophy cabinet, he will need to do much better considering that he has netted only seven goals in 16 appearances so far.
