The I-League season has kicked off and it promises to be one hell of a season for all the teams involved.
Many players will come into this season with the motivation to win individual as well as team accolades.
Most of the foreign players will be highly motivated to prove themselves throughout the course of the campaign....
Keeping that in mind, here are three foreigners who could be the best in the I-League this season....
3. Katsumi Yusa - Chennai City FC
Japanese attacker Katsumi Yusa has had mixed spells at NorthEast United FC, East Bengal and Neroca FC.
Chennai City FC did take a gamble on signing him and it feels like they will earn well from it. Moreover, he will also fulfil the club’s Asian foreign player quota for its AFC Cup and AFC Champions League campaigns.
Additionally, Yusa will be replacing Nestor Gordillo, who moved to Hyderabad FC in the summer.
2. Joseba Beitia - Mohun Bagan
Mohun Bagan has a total of four Spanish players as part of their foreign players' quote this season with Joseba Beitia being one of them.
Beitia actually played with Antoine Griezmann in Real Sociedad’s youth teams and will be featuring outside Spain for the first time in his career.
After a poor last season, Bagan will be banking on Beitia to lead them to a top spot in the I-League this season.
1. Pedro Manzi - Chennai City FC
Experienced forward Pedro Manzi thrived under coach Akbar Nawas last season. He was the top-scorer with 21 goals, which included four hat-tricks as he helped Chennai City FC claim its maiden I-League title.
Manzi is a sure-shot favourite to be the top scorer in the I-league this season. Chennai City FC will be taking part in the AFC Champions League preliminary rounds later this year and their fate depends quite a lot on the 29-year-old striker.
