The 13th edition of the I-League, the second division of Indian football, got underway on November 30 and the first four games saw Gokulam Kerala, Chennai City FC and Churchill Brothers claim victories whereas Aizawl and Mohun Bagan played out a draw.
With the season still just starting, we take a look at three Indian players who will have a major impact in the I-League this season.....
3. Bidyashagar Singh - East Bengal
Bidyashagar Singh stormed into the limelight with his spirited performances at the Calcutta Football League this year.
The East Bengal academy graduate has firmly established himself as a strong candidate for the starting XI after playing crucial roles in the CFL, coming on as a substitute and scoring a couple of goals too.
2. Ajith Kumar Kamaraj– Chennai City FC
Left-back Ajith Kumar was the find of the season for Chennai City FC last year.
The 23-year-old was immense as his club rode on to their maiden I-League triumph last season and was therefore rewarded with a three-year contract extension.
If he continues to impress this season too, the defender will most certainly catch national team coach Igor Stimac's attention.
1. Danish Farooq – Real Kashmir
Danish Farooq was the shining light in Real Kashmir's debut I-League season last year. Despite scoring just two goals, the 23-year-old was one of the major reasons why the North-Indian side led themselves to an incredible third placed finish in the league table.
If he continues to perform well in this season of the I-League, it won't come as a surprise if Igor Stimac selects him for the Indian national football team soon.
