Oman picked up a 1-0 win in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier Group E game at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex against the Indian national football team on Tuesday.

Muhsen Al-Ghassani scored what looked like an offside goal in the 33rd minute for the hosts. Coach Igor Stimac made three changes to the side that drew 1-1 against Afghanistan last week. Mandar Rao Desai, Pritam Kotal and Sahal Abdul Samad were replaced by Nishu Kumar, Farukh Choudhary and Manvir Singh. Ashique Kuruniyan came in at left-back.

The first talking point of the game came in the sixth minute when Rahul Bheke brought down Muhsen Al Ghassani in the box and Oman were handed a penalty and their striker Muhsen Al Ghassani missed from the spot.

But, he ensured that he made up for his miss by scoring in the 33rd minute. Mohsin Al Khaldi opened up the Indian defence with a through-ball to the striker, who appeared to be in an off-side position but the side-line referee failed to put his flag up.

India tried to look active in midfield but could not create any notable chances. Moreover,. Stimac was also forced to make two early changes with Pronay Halder and Adil Khan suffering injuries in the first half.

The second half was more of the same as the Indian team could not manage to keep hold of the ball, with a clear technical gap in quality seen as compared to the Oman side.

Ball control, passing and composure are the three pillars of good football and sadly, none of the three were seen in huge periods of the 90 minutes.
