Edinson Cavani reportedly asked Lionel Messi if he would like to fight him during Argentina’s clash with Uruguay on Monday night.

The two sides played out a friendly that ended in a 2-2 draw, but it was hardly that as things didn’t look particularly friendly between the Argentine talisman and Cavani during the encounter.

The pair were seen exchanging words before Diego Godin stepped in to prevent it from escalating. They allegedly exchanged a few words in the tunnel as well, and Luis Suarez had to step in to diffuse the tension.

It’s unclear as to what was initially said between the two stars to spark the incident albeit there was a coming together in a scrap for the ball.

According to Ole in Argentina, it ended with Cavani suggesting that the pair take it a step further and fight it out, with Messi said to have been caught on camera replying with: “Whenever you want”.

Last week, Messi was involved in a spat with Brazil coach Tite as the Barcelona legend told his rival to ‘shut up’ as he urged the referee to book Messi during Argentina’s 1-0 win in Saudi Arabia.

While Lionel Messi will surely be pleased to have played an influential role in two positive results after returning from his three-month ban, it sure seemed like the Barcelona talisman was in a foul mood.
