The Indian football team have traveled to Oman as they continue their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign in the AFC Second Round game at the Al-Seeb Stadium on Tuesday at 8:30pm IST on Star Sports Network and Hotstar.
The Blue Tigers needed a late equaliser to avoid a shock defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in the last game and will look to perform better against Oman.
Here are three things to look out for from this clash....
3. Midfield and defence needs to be sorted out
The Indian back-line is still vulnerable and Stimac is yet to find the best combination to ensure that Gurpreet Singh faces lesser shots in India's goal.
Moreover, the lack of creativity in midfield was evident against Afghanistan and the attack has been far from being lethal. However, a win against Oman could virtually make Indian fans forget what happened in the past matches.
2. Probable XI, squad updates and match prediction
India's predicted starting XI:
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Pritam Kotal, Rahul Bheke, Adil Khan, Mandar Rao Desai, Pronay Halder, Anirudh Thapa, Brandon Fernandes, Udanta Singh, Sunil Chhetri, Manvir Singh
Anas Edathodika will miss out again, after having left the camp due to a personal emergency. There weren't any injuries picked up in the Afghanistan game, so except Anas, Stimac has a full squad to choose from.
Going by both teams' form, it is hard to look by a defeat for India. Unless India come up with an unbelievable performance, there is less hope for the Blue Tigers. We predict a 2-0 loss for Igor Stimac's men.
1. Oman historic favourites
Since claiming a win in the first game between these two teams in 1994, India have gone seven games without a win against Oman.
In fact, India have lost their last three competitive games against Oman, with their last visit to Muscat ending in a 3-0 loss.
The Blue Tigers played Oman in a friendly before the AFC Asian Cup 2019, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
