Every season, some youngsters in the world of football are pushed into the limelight. Last season, it was Luka Jovic, Jadon Sancho and Joao Felix and this season, Erling Braut Haaland seems to be the chosen one.
The Norwegian is in the form of his life as he has already scored 26 goals from just 18 matches in all competitions so far this season. He seems to have already outgrown Red Bull Salzburg and it won’t be long before he leaves them.
3. He Would Cost a Lot
In the world of football, strikers are always the most expensive players. They become more expensive if they are young and have a lot of years left to perform.
In this regard, Haaland ticks all the boxes. He is only 20 years of age and is already a goal machine, which means he would cost in the nine-figure mark. Given that Barcelona have already spent a lot of money in recent times, it would not be wise for them to pursue him.
Also, the Catalan giants have never really played with a physical striker of his stature for a long period of time, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic the only recent name that comes to memory and we all know how his tenure ended.
2. The Presence of Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann is one of the players that Barcelona have spent a lot of money on. The Frenchman cost the Catalan giants €120 million and while he hasn’t been at his best at the Camp Nou yet, he is still a fantastic player.
The former Real Sociedad star has been signed as an eventual successor to the throne of Luis Suarez and bringing another potentially elite forward will only cause a disturbance for the Blaugrana. As a result, more faith should be put in Griezmann as the French forward can still go on to become a great player at Camp Nou.
1. He Is Still Very Young
Erling Haaland is still only 20 years of age. At this moment in his career, he needs to play regularly in order to reach his potential. If Barcelona didn’t have Antoine Griezmann in the team, then Haaland would have been an excellent signing as he would have been a regular.
Right now, however, he needs to join a club where he will have more chance of being in the starting XI and at the Blaugrana, it is just not possible with both Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann around.
He could potentially join the club somewhere down the line as he is still very young but right now, it is not the right move for him or for Barcelona.
Barcelona have been linked to Erling Braut Haaland but here are three reasons they should not sign the striker
