Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has lifted the lid on the type of relationship that Lionel Messi shares with Antoine Griezmann, while also talking about the latter’s struggles at the club following his move from Atletico Madrid this summer.
The French forward joined Barcelona for €120 million this summer but hasn’t been able to replicate the form that made him a superstar at the Wanda Metropolitano.
So far, he has scored only four times and assisted thrice from 11 games in La Liga, but Lenglet has defended his compatriot by saying that he will need time to adapt to Barcelona’s playing style.

“You need time to adapt to feel better on the pitch and play as well as possible. At Barcelona, we’re trying to recover the ball as high as possible on the pitch with a lot of efforts on 20 to 30 metre runs. With Atletico, it was a bit different, they were falling back, and it was 50 to 60 metre runs. So you have to learn that, you need time,” he said, as per Barca Blaugranes.
He then spoke about Messi and revealed that while the Argentine has his own close circle of friends, he doesn’t shy away from helping other players.
“He is very calm, very composed, very simple, very natural. When you arrive at Barça, you are careful about what you do. But Leo is not the sort of person to reprimand you or to give you orders.
“It is the case with Antoine, like it was with me. A dialogue exists. Leo is someone who has a very tight-knit circle, who gets on very well with Luis but he helps others on a daily basis.”
