Former Real Madrid star Steve McManaman has revealed that Gareth Bale is happy at the Santiago Bernabeu and wants to stay in Spain. The Welshman was set to leave in the summer but ended up staying at the Bernabeu.

Zinedine Zidane went on the record to claim that the quicker he leaves, the better it is for the team. However, the Frenchman was then forced to incorporate the Welshman back into the team and while he did get a good start for the Blancos, he has once again found his way back into controversy.

The Wales star couldn’t play a single game for the club after getting injured on international duty but that hasn’t stopped Wales from calling him up for the next round of international matches.

This has once again brought Bale’s commitment into question but McManaman thinks that the player is happy to stay in Madrid before adding that Madrid have lost its appeal as Liverpool and Manchester City are the best sides in the world.

“He is happy in Madrid and he wants to stay," he was quoted as saying by AS.

"I don't know if he has a future at Real Madrid because there are many media comments stating that he doesn't, and that he wants to play in China. But he is happy. The best clubs are in England. It is no longer necessary, for example, to play at Real Madrid, as the best teams are Liverpool and Manchester City.”
