The Red Devils sealed a place in the last 32 of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 3-0 win over Partizan Belgrade at Old Trafford, but find themselves in 10th place on the Premier League table.
United are expected to go big in the January transfer window with a striker a major priority, however Solskjaer has admitted it will be difficult to get their choices of players mid-season.
However, Mirror report that there are atleast two players who could make the move to United for big money in mid-season in the form of James Maddison and Erling Braut Haaland.
Maddison has been long been linked with United, while Haaland has impressed with his goalscoring exploits in the UEFA Champions League and the Austrian Bundesliga.
Haaland is the Champions League's top scorer so far this season with seven goals in the opening four games. A plethora of other clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona are handing tough competition to Manchester United in the race to sign the impressive striker.
Haaland scored a penalty in Salzburg's 1-1 draw away to Napoli on Tuesday - while his brace against the same team in the previous match wrote his name into the record books as he became the first player to score six goals in his first three Champions League appearances.
According to stats website Transfermarkt, Haaland's market value has shot up to £27m since from around £5m at the start of the season. He is contracted to Salzburg until 2023.
