Premier League: 3 Things to Look Forward to as Manchester United Host Liverpool

Manchester United vs. Liverpool is one of the biggest games in football the world over, and despite the current position of the hosts, this is going to be a scintillating encounter.

Liverpool have won every Premier League game they've played this season, are brimming with confidence and comfortably sit top of the table.

United, meanwhile, are going through arguably their leanest spell in decades. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are without a win in their last five matches and are a lowly 14th in the league, one point above the relegation zone.

Here are three things to look forward to as the Red Devils host the Reds:

3. Liverpool’s Old Trafford Hoodoo

In the last 10 years, Liverpool have won just once at Old Trafford. That was a 3-0 victory over David Moyes' beleaguered United, in a game in which Liverpool were awarded three penalties.

Apart from that, the Reds have failed to register a single win against relatively mediocre United sides under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. They even failed to win against an injury-ravaged Red Devils side at Old Trafford last season.

This is a game in which the Old Trafford crowd always gets rowdy and they can make it difficult for Jurgen Klopp's men, who will be wary of losing their incredible league record this season at Old Trafford of all places.

2. Daniel James vs. Trent Alexander-Arnold Could Be the Key Battle

Liverpool sit atop the league table but their defence has failed to flatter on numerous occasions this season, despite being the best in Europe consistently over the last 18 months. If RB Salzburg could put three past their defence in the Champions League, United should have no issues taking them on, especially with Daniel James in their side.

If James can trouble Trent Alexander-Arnold, he might be able to expose the Achilles heel of Klopp's side. The England right-back is excellent going forward, but can be exposed running back to his own goal.

With the Reds having made defensive mistakes on a couple of occasions this season, and giving opponents more chances, Manchester United could use that to their advantage.

1. Sadio Mane the Man to Watch

Sadio Mane is Liverpool’s top goalscorer so far this season, and he continues to show his class week-in, week-out.

He shows no fear in taking shots from outside of the box, and always tries to get in behind the defence to create easier opportunities. With doubts lingering over David de Gea's ability to prove his fitness in time for the match, Mane might look to test Sergio Romero with a shot from distance early on.

With fears over the extent of Mohamed Salah’s ankle injury, it might just be time for the Senegalese international to shine.
