Selecting a Fantasy Premier League captain can be a headache, especially after international breaks when so many players are just back and could be rested.
Also, it doesn’t help when Pep Guardiola picks Raheem Sterling ahead of Sergio Aguero when you’ve got the latter as your captain. Or vice-versa. We’ve all been there. Or when you’re confident enough to triple captain Mohammed Salah, but Sadio Mane steals the spotlight.
Fret not. There are plenty of attractive fixtures coming up, and we’re here to help you select the most lucrative candidate to give the armband to.
Here are 5 FPL captain picks for GW9.
5. Callum Wilson – Bournemouth
Callum Wilson (£7.9m) has been extremely consistent, supplying a goal or an assist in seven of the Cherries' first eight fixtures. Plus, he has no European football midweek which makes him a guarantee to start.
He also ranks joint-top in the league with a tally of 4 goals scored in the last 4 Gameweeks, level with Tammy Abraham and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. Bournemouth are up against a Norwich side who have let in 21 goals in eight games, and are second to last on the Premier League table.
4. Jamie Vardy – Leicester City
Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) is another strong contender for the armband as Leicester take on Burnley at the King Power Stadium. With two goals in Leicester’s last home fixture against Newcastle, Vardy now has four goals and an assist in his last three home matches.
Vardy has more goals in 2019, and that could make him a shrewder pick at a bargain of 2 million cheaper than Aubameyang. He’s also the third most-bought forward for Gameweek 9, transferred in by over 104,000 managers.
3. Raheem Sterling – Man City
A trip to Crystal Palace awaits Man City, with Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) boasting an impressive away record so far. Only Abraham (6) has scored more than his 5 goals on the road, while no player has had more big chances than Sterling.
However, you might want to be wary considering Palace’s home defensive record, and City’s abysmal performances against Wolves before the international break.
2. Sadio Mane – Liverpool
A goal and assist last time out means Sadio Mane (£11.7m) has now outscored Salah this season, and he might just be a better pick than his Egyptian team-mate. Liverpool are up against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and with the Red Devils’ current form, Jurgen Klopp’s men will definitely be looking to take advantage.
Also, Salah has been shipped out by 271,386 managers while Mane has been transferred in by 279,873 (at last count).
1. Tammy Abraham – Chelsea
Tammy Abraham (£7.7m) is the most-bought forward in Gameweek 9, transferred in by 233,000 managers, making him the second most-popular player in the game, owned by 42.3 percent.
He’s the Premier League’s current top scorer (along with Aguero), and has had three gameweeks in which he has scored 13 or more points. Chelsea play Newcastle who have already conceded 11 goals in their four away matches so far this season, while most recently Leicester put five past them three weeks ago.
