5 Players Who Need to Step Up Their Game Following the International Break

The international break is now over and club football will now resume, much to the joy of fans. The international break offers the chance for the players to re-evaluate themselves and act accordingly.

Prior to the break, there were some players who were not playing at the standard expected of them – and here 5 of them who would need to step up as club football resumes.

Special mentions: Virgil Van Dijk and Thibaut Courtois – both haven’t been performing at the level expected of them.

5. Raphael Varane

When Raphael Varane joined Real Madrid as a teenager, he showed glimpses of such genius that fans wanted to fast forward half a decade to see how good he would turn out to be.

As it turns out, however, the Frenchman is nowhere near the level that was expected of him and this season so far, he hasn’t susceptible to errors. There have been times when Madrid conceded goals where he was at fault as he looks like a shadow of the player that he once was.

4. Antoine Griezmann

It might be harsh to put him on this list since he has not really been used in a role that is suited to him at Barcelona – he has mostly been tucked on the left side of the attack – but Griezmann hasn’t played as good as the fans would have hoped.

The Catalans have been a better side without him in the team and even though he is being played on the left, he is certainly capable of being more involved in the system of the team.

3. Dele Alli

Dele Alli became a star at Tottenham due to his performances over the last few years. However, his poor form this season has meant that he was dropped out of the English squad, which should serve as a warning for him.

While injury problems haven’t helped him at all, he is yet to score or assist this season, which comes off the back of a season where he mustered only five goals and three assists in the league from 25 matches.

2. Marcus Rashford

The Manchester United forward has been a disappointment for a while now and is downward slump has gone to another level this season. In 8 matches this season, he has only three goals and two assists.

The youngster now has the responsibility to pick up his form since he is the main scorer of the team. United have only scored 9 times from 8 matches in the league so far and Rashford will have to buckle up now.

1. Eden Hazard

When Real Madrid signed Eden Hazard for a €100 million, fans were extremely happy with the move. The Belgian had been linked with the Galacticos for a long time and the move had finally come to fruition.

However, he is yet to find his feet with the Merengues as he has only scored one goal and assisted once in 6 matches so far this season. He doesn’t look as sharp as he did back in Chelsea and he will have to up the ante following the international break.
