Former Manchester United manager and possibly one of the greatest coaches in the history of football Jose Mourinho has revealed in his recent interview that neither the excellence of Lionel Messi nor the perseverance of Cristiano Ronaldo can surpass the genius of El Fenomeno -Ronaldo Nazario.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker was a footballing demigod at the turn of the 2000s and on being asked to name the best player he has ever seen in his lifetime, Mourinho overlooked both Cristiano and Messi and chose Ronaldo Nazario.

As reported by Marca, while speaking in his interview with Livescore, Mourinho was asked who has been the greatest footballer he has seen in his lifetime and the Portuguese coach answered, "Ronaldo, El Fenomeno, Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi have had longer careers, they have remained at the top every day for 15 years."

Mourinho then answered the main question about his choice among the three in terms of talent and skill as he continued, "However, if we are talking strictly about talent and skill, nobody surpasses Ronaldo [Nazario]. When he was at Barcelona with Bobby Robson, I realised that he was the best player I'd ever seen take to the field."

Revealing his disappointment at Ronaldo's career coming to an end earlier due to injuries, Mourinho stated in conclusion, "Injuries killed a career that could have been even more incredible, but the talent that that 19-year-old boy had was something incredible. In 1997, Barcelona played against PSG in Rotterdam and Ronaldo's goal, 1-0. Awesome."
