Barcelona faced Sevilla at the Camp Nou in a match that was supposed to be far tighter than it ended up being. The Blaugranas ran riot against Julen Lopetegui’s men as they won 4-0 at home.
With this win, Barcelona are now 5 points ahead of Sevilla in the points table with 16 points from 8 matches. Here are the three things that we learned from the game.
3. Messi magic
Even though father time is getting a hold of the Argentine, he is simply unstoppable even now. When the ball is at his feet, it seems as though time simply stops – allowing him to do what he wants.
The Argentine might have finished the match with just one goal but he was a constant thorn on the side of Sevilla. He completed an astonishing 10 dribbles, which goes on to show how insane this man is.
2. Lopetegui has work to do
For the first few weeks of the league, many were arguing that Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla were the best team in Spain and the Spaniard’s work with the team was also being praised.
However, after losses to both Real Madrid and Barcelona, it seems as though Lopetgui has a lot of work left to do with his new team. He could yet risk going downhill from here as Sevilla’s defensive shape doesn’t really hold itself well under pressure.
1. Pressure on Madrid
With a win for Barcelona, the Catalans now have 16 points from 8 games. Only Real Madrid have more points with 18 points from 8 matches, which means they are at the top of the table.
With a lead of just two points, the pressure is on Madrid to not slip up since the moment they do that, Barcelona could take the lead and if history is anything to go by, once the Catalans take the lead, it becomes very hard to get back over them.
