Former Sunderland forward and Ghanian footballing great Asamoah Gyan has joined Indian Super League side NorthEast United after the Highlanders announced it on their social media platforms on Thursday.
The 33-year-old striker has featured in the Premier League, the Serie A for Udinese as well as for Ligue 1 side Rennes.
He has scored 212 goals in 409 appearances with his best record coming during his stint at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, where he 123 goals over four seasons.
However, one can say that his most impressive performances have come while performing for his national team Ghana.
Gyan has scored 51 goals in 107 appearances for Ghana and was named captain of the national team ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, during which he became Africa's top goalscorer in the history of the tournament.
The Ghanian forward joins the Highlanders after a long list of players like Maximiliano Barreiro, Subhasish Roy Chowdhury and Kai Heerings made the move to NorthEast.
On joining the club, Gyan said, "I am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my career. I have heard great things about NorthEast United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season. I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year."
