Portugal and Juventus superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears after being shown footage of his late father during a television interview recently, with the striker revealing that, "he didn't expect to cry".

The 34-year-old was shown a film of Jose Dinis Aveiro, an alcoholic who died of liver failure at the age of 52, speaking about his son on his doorstep during an hour-long chat with Piers Morgan.

This led to Ronaldo breaking down, who never expected to break down, revealing that he never had a normal conversation with his father.

“I never saw the video. I never saw that video. Unbelievable. I think the interview would be funny, but I didn’t expect to cry. But I never saw these images. I don’t know where you… I have to have these images to show my family," Ronaldo said in an interview as quoted by fourfourtwo.

“But I really don’t know my father 100 per cent. He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard.”

Ronaldo who is widely considered as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, was 20 when his father died with him missing all the big moments of his career.

“My family see, my mum, my brothers, even my old son, but my father, he didn’t see nothing, and it was… he died young," he added.
