Liverpool played hosts to Newcastle United at Anfield Stadium and came away with another clinical 3-1 win to keep their 100 percent record in the Premier League intact. The hosts fell behind in the early stages of the game but came back roaring to give no chance for Newcastle to cause an upset.
Here are three things we learned from Liverpool's 3-1 win over Newcastle United.
3. Firmino's importance
Although Liverpool had equalised by the time Roberto Firmino was introduced for an injured Divock Origi, the Brazilian immediately showed how much different things are when he is on the pitch. Until then, Newcastle were comfortable with Liverpool's attacks but Firmino asked more probing questions and provided two brilliant assists to help the Reds seal the win.
2. Not quite relegation candidates
At the start of the season, it was expected that Newcastle was one of the teams that would get relegated at the end of the campaign. However, their win over Tottenham Hotspur and their performance against Liverpool suggest that may not entirely be the case and could actually have a decent team that will stay up.
1. Title race
With Manchester City shockingly losing to Norwich City, Liverpool now have a five point lead over the rest of the league. This is the second consecutive season they have won the first five games and will be keen to ensure that they do not throw away another chance to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time.
