Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has praised Raheem Sterling for the way he has improved over the last year. The Englishman is earning rave plaudits for the work he has put out for a year now and Carragher is one among them.

The former defender believes that his performance last year puts him among the best players of this era as his productivity on the pitch in terms of goals and assists has taken him to another level.

“Over the last 12 months, we have seen Sterling emerge as one of the great players of this era who is improving by the week. His productivity with goals and assists is rising to extraordinary levels,” he wrote on Independent.ie.

“His next goal will be his 40th for club and country since the start of last season. He has eight in eight games for England.”

Carragher then went on to add that Sterling is not only England’s best player but is among the top 5 in the world – just under the bracket of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I have seen it written since the midweek internationals that Sterling is England's best player. He is much more than that. He is now in the top five or six best attacking players in the world, in that group just below Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."
