Former Barcelona and current Fiorentina attacking midfielder, Kevin-Prince Boateng has opened up on his former team-mate, Ousmane Dembele, claiming that the winger "is a little boy who doesn't know how it all works".
Boateng who moved to the Camp Nou on a six-month loan spell in January, played alongside the Frenchman who has been criticised from various quarters over his lack of discipline, that has seen him miss a number of training sessions in the past.
Boateng though believes that this could be attributed to his young age and that he has been put on the spotlight due to his high transfer price.
ex-Barça Kevin-Prince Boateng: “I saw how Ousmane Dembélé is just like a big kid who would arrive late to training now and again and one has to accept the way he is. Some players adopt that approach as a way of challenging, but he is different, he really is like a big kid.”— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) September 12, 2019
"He is very calm, does not talk much. He is still like a child for me. You have to take him as he is and it may be that he’s late [to training]. There are players who do that in defiance, but that’s different with him, he’s just like a little boy. One who earns a lot of money. One who is extremely public. You have to point him in the right direction," Boateng said as quoted by Goal.
"For me, he’s still a little boy who was thrown into this giant pool, suddenly cost €150m overnight, and still doesn’t know how it all works because he just wants to play football."
The 22-year-old has struggled with injuries and fluctuations in form ever since arriving at the Nou Camp from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and has so far netted 18 goals in 66 appearances for the club.
