Manchester City legend and current Anderlecht skipper, Vincent Kompany has made a stark admission, revealing that Liverpool star, Virgil van Dijk is the "best defender to have ever played in the Premier League".

The former City captain who was present in his testimonial game which featured Man City and other Premier League legends on Wednesday night, has hailed the impact that the Dutchman has had on the Reds.

“I go back to players that really impressed me when I played against them, central defenders, I would bring it back to Virgil Van Dijk. Being a defender is how you make your team more solid. The Liverpool before Van Dijk and after – it is a completely different set-up," Kompany said as quoted by Thickaccent.

The Belgian who joined the Etihad based outfit from Hamburg in 2008 will without doubt go down as one of the greatest player in their history, if not the greatest, making 360 appearances while leading them to four Premier League titles, two FA Cup's and two Community Shields.

The 33-year-old also represented his national country, Belgium, 87 times for whom he scored four goals and helped finish third in the 2018 World Cup. It will be interesting to see whether he can bring his magic touch to Anderlecht, considering that they are currently struggling in the league.
