Portugal coach Fernando Santos has stated that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world following his four-goal show against Lithuania in the Euro Qualifier match.

According to Santos, his performance against Lithuania is proof that he is the best in the world and mentioned that the former Sporting star is applauded in every stadium that he goes to.

"This is the clear and irrevocable proof that he is the best player in the world," Santos was quoted by Goal.

"There is no stadium in the world where Ronaldo is not applauded," Santos added. "He is the best in the world.

He then recalled an incident when the Portuguese football team went to Paris and there was a flock of fans at the doors of the hotel to get a glimpse of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

"We went to Paris in my first game, and the hotel in France was just across the street. There were a thousand people at our door."

Santos then expressed his bemusement at people’s claims of Ronaldo reaching the ending of career whenever he has a rough patch of form and suggested that with the Portugal captain, it doesn’t really ever end.

"I think it's strange when he doesn't score. They say it is ending ... Nothing is ending. You have to be careful because it never ends."
