Real Madrid skipper, Sergio Ramos believes that Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk will be a worth winner of the Ballon d'Or and that the award is not exclusive to the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Van Dijk is touted as the favourite to win the award following his performances for Liverpool last season, with the defender even beating the iconic duo to the UEFA Player of the Award earlier this month.

Ramos who is widely considered as one of the best defenders in the history of the sport, believes that while it is hard for a defender to win the award in today's climate, a win for the Dutchman would be on full merit.
"If Van Dijk wins it, it will be on sufficient merit. As a defender, it's harder. It seems as though it's not just Messi and Cristiano [now]. It seems there's a route opening [for others]. It makes you think [when you realise] that no Spanish players have won it. It's an individual prize and it's not really known what is being recognised," he said at the launch of his upcoming documentary on Amazon as quoted by Evening Standard.'
While Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the past decade or so, winning five Ballon d'Or's each, their run was broken last year when the honour was bestowed on Real Madrid star, Luka Modric.
