Icardi has had a rough time over the last six months at Inter over a contract dispute with the club and is widely expected to leave before the transfer window closes. Napoli are one of the clubs that are linked with a move for the player.
With Inter having already signed Romelu Lukaku, Icardi is no longer needed at the club, but Careca has insisted that Napoli should also move on from him if he does not want to come.
“Are we really still waiting for his answer? If he doesn’t want to come, he can go to hell,” Careca told Il Mattino. “Has he understood what Napoli are about, what the San Paolo is, who the Azzurri fans are? Does he realise that scoring goals with that shirt isn’t worth the world? If he doesn’t want to come, it’s better if he doesn’t. If I was at Napoli, I wouldn’t even waste another second on him.”
“Napoli already have a good number nine. [Arkadiusz] Milik can reach 30 goals. He has good positioning, he finishes well and moves with substance. He has everything that’s needed in a centre-forward.”
It remains to be seen if Napoli will look for other options in the transfer market or persist with their chase of Icardi before the window closes on September 2.
