Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has insisted that Gareth Bale should not leave the club amid links with a move during the summer transfer window, and said that he has proven himself ever since he moved to the La Liga club.

Manager Zinedine Zidane had earlier made it clear that he would rather that Bale left the club sooner rather than later and intimated that he did not have a place for the winger in his team. Bale even had a move to China scuppered in the last minute.

However, in a major turnaround, Zidane gave Bale a start in their La Liga opener and the winger repaid the faith by providing the assist for Karim Benzema's opening goal against Celta Vigo on Saturday.

After the game, Casemiro has insisted that Bale is a significant part of the team and must continue playing for Madrid and should not be sold.

"He has given us titles, he's scored in finals and he has a lot of respect from us all," Casemiro said, according to Goal"He has to play. He's a great player and is very important for us."

Even goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was adamant that Bale should remain with the club, and said that every body in the team loves him as a player.

He is an important player and played a great match," Courtois said. "Everyone loves him and it is important that he plays for us. We are so happy with Bale."

It remains to be seen if that will indeed be the case and if Bale would actually want to continue playing for a manager who has shown his displeasure with him in the past.
