Real Madrid defender Marcelo has heaped praise on Juventus for winning eight consecutive league titles and also revealed that he was approached by Italian teams, before adding that he did not want to leave.
The Brazilian had been linked with a move to Juventus following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Turin. In the end, it didn’t happen as Marcelo stayed put at Real.
Speaking to the Italian media, the Brazilian stated that Juventus’ eight league titles in a row was a result of their competitive spirit and is something that is not very easy to do.
“The eight consecutive championships of the Bianconeri are the result of a competitive spirit and the hunger for victory. This and good management are the keys to staying on top. Not an easy thing,” he was quoted by Juventus News 24.
He then added that the Old Lady have the ability to win the Champions League as they have been in two finals recently, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence increases the Bianconeri’s chances of winning it.
“In recent years, they have been close to it twice, reaching the final. Winning the Champions League is a complicated thing, it's the final icing of a journey. The fact, however, is that they have always been competitive [and that] is the demonstration of their value. With Cristiano Ronaldo then, the hopes of winning it have increased.”
The left-back then went on to reveal that while he had been approached by Italian clubs in the past, it was nothing serious as he never contemplated leaving.
"In my head there never was this idea (to wear the shirt of Juventus). I always felt connected to Real Madrid and Madridismo. I was often approached by Italian clubs, but they were only rumours. The truth is that I love Real, it is my home and the best club in the world," he concluded.
