European giants, Barcelona are interested in signing David Alaba from Bayern Munich, with the Mundo Deportivo reporting that they are eyeing the Austrian in order to provide competition to Jordi Alba at left-back.

However, the report also goes on to state that the main reason they want him at the Nou Camp is due to his versatility with Alaba able to play as defender, defensive midfielder and central midfielder, despite primarily being a full-back by trade.

Widely considered as one of the best in his position, the 27-year-old though won't come in for cheap and it is unlikely that Bayern would want to sell him as they see him entering his peak years and believe that he represents their future as they rebuild their squad following the high profile departures of a key personnel.

Alaba, who started out in the club's youth system, has not looked back ever since he was given his senior debut in 2010. He has made 344 appearances for the German giants, scoring 34 goals and helping them win eight Bundesliga titles, four DFB Pokal honours and the 2013 UEFA Champions League.

He has also appeared 64 times for his national side, Austria, winning the Austrian Footballer of the Year award six consecutive times between 2010 and 2016.
