Argentina starlet, Thiago Almada, dubbed as the next Lionel Messi, is reportedly stalling on a new contract with current club, Vélez Sarsfield in his native Argentina amid reports that Premier League giants, Manchester City are set to offer him a deal.

As per the Mirror, the 18-year-old has been offered a new deal by Vélez, who want his release clause buffed up from £14 million to £23 million, which could be a problem considering that City  have reportedly made a bid of £11 million.

Velez, for their part, want Almada to commit to a new deal but with City having come so close to matching his current release clause, it is understood that the teenager does not want to do anything which would scupper his dreams of playing in the Premier League.

"We have everything agreed for the renovation of Thiago, only the signature is missing. The cancellation clause will be £23 million," Vélez general director Pablo Cavallero told continental radio, as quoted by Mirror.

Widely hailed as Argentina's next Messi, Thiago enjoyed a successful campaign in 2018/19, scoring three goals and registering two assists in 16 games for Vélez. With City interested in pursuing a transfer for him, there is no doubt that he would want to get on board and realise his dream of playing in England.
