Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has outlined the expectations that the club and their fans have from new signings Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong has been touted as the player that will carry Barcelona's future on his shoulders whereas former Atletico Madrid superstar Griezmann is under pressure to justify his world class stature in football.

22-year-old De Jong joined Barcelona for £67m this summer and Griezmann arrived at Camp Nou last week in a £107million deal from Atletico Madrid.

Valverde is looking forward to coach both these players and has spoken highly of them. As reported by the Mirror, while speaking about De Jong, Valverde said, "Last season he played at a great level, like Ajax did."

He continued, "He is a footballer who will give freshness to the midfield and he is a project for the future, because he is a quality footballer who has many years of football ahead and who has our style of play."

Valverde then went on to reveal the huge expectations that are placed on Griezmann, claiming that he predicts the 28-year-old will hit the ground running.

He said, "He is a footballer with experience in LaLiga Santander and in that aspect he is more settled than De Jong. He is fast, plays well into space and he is a good finisher. We trust him a lot, we know what this type of player is worth and we expect immediate performance."

Griezmann has signed a contract with Barcelona that reportedly runs until June 2024 and he is expected to earn around £15m a year which is a big increase on what he was making at Atletico.
