Montpellier skipper and former Ligue 1 winner, Vitorino Hilton has taken a dig at Paris Saint-Germain winger, Neymar, claiming that the Brazilian "is not tough enough in the head to be a leader in the field".
Neymar has been in the news throughout the summer regarding his potential move to Barcelona, with the player himself recently telling the PSG management that he is looking to leave Paris.
While rumours surround his future, Hilton has opened up on the player, claiming that while he is a fantastic player, his off-field issues have affected him when it comes to the pitch.
"He is not tough enough in the head to be a leader in the field. We saw with the Copa America. In Brazil everyone was saying, ‘Luckily he was not here’.” He is a fantastic player, there is nothing to say. But we talk a lot about his little problems outside the field, his private life," Hilton said to L'Equipe.
"That’s what stopped Neymar from being really good in Ligue 1, even though he’s been one of the best players in recent seasons.”
There has been no doubt that when fit Neymar has excelled on the pitch, scoring 51 goals in just 58 games, leading the club to two consecutive league titles, while also being named the Ligue 1 "Best Player of the Year" in 2017/18.
