Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o has claimed that Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah should join Barcelona in order to become one of the best players in the world.

Salah has completely shed himself of the image of wasteful winger during his short tenure at Liverpool, having scored 71 goals and assisting 29 assists in 102 appearances for the club, a remarkable statistic of almost one goal or assist every game. He is also a key component of the dreaded triumvirate that is Liverpool's frontline, completed by Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

While most team-mates, fans and pundits already consider him among the best players in the world, if not the best, Eto'o has a different notion, stating that the Egyptian needed to join Barcelona to be considered among the best the game has to offer.

He has been linked with a move to Real Madrid but 38-year-old, who spent five years at Barcelona from 2004, said in an interview reported by Goal: "Barcelona would be a better fit.

"Real gave me the opportunity to leave Africa but I know Barcelona's style and I think it would be better for him."

Eto'o, who was taken on as youth player by Real and made three appearances for Los Blancos, added: "If he has the chance to play in the best league of the world, which is the Spanish one, he has to sign for Barcelona. Mo has everything to be one of the best players in the world."

Salah will hope to inspire Egypt to win the AFCON like he helped Liverpool win the Champions League, as they prepare to take on the dangerous Congo side.
