Ajax starlet, Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly rejected the chance to join European giants, Barcelona amid rumours that he is very close to signing with Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Cadena Ser’s El Larguero, as per Dailymail, the 19-year-old who is currently on holiday in Florida is weighing up his future, with the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona themselves keen to sign him in the summer.

His rejection of the Catalan giants came despite club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu travelling to Amsterdam in a bid to convince the player, as he had successfully done with Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong.

Widely considered to be one of the best young players in the world, the Dutch centre-back came through the famed academy at Ajax and was in imperious form last season as he led the Dutch side to the domestic double and the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they knocked-out the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus.

It will be interesting to see how this transfer saga pans out considering that at one point of time Barcelona were considered to be favourites to sign him, only for PSG to overtake them in the bid to secure his services in the summer.
