Germany and Bayern Munich defender, Mats Hummels is closing on a shock return to former club, Borussia Dortmund, claims a report in the Mirror. The report goes on to state that the two clubs have agreed to a £27 million transfer fee for the services of the centre-back, who is set to move in the summer.

The 30-year-old who rose through the ranks at Bayern, eventually made the move to Dortmund on loan in 2008, where he played under Jurgen Klopp. He completed a permanent a year later, following which he established himself as one of the best defenders in the world, helping the club win two Bundesliga titles.

He returned bto Bayern in 2016 but his place in the first XI has been far from secure under current manager, Niko Kovac with the German making only 20 league appearances last season, with his place in the squad set to be taken by French defender, Lucas Hernandez who was signed from Atletico Madrid for £72 million.

Bayern who are looking to overhaul their squad ahead of the start of next season are ready to cash in on Hummels, considering that he turns 31 and was dumped out of the national squad by German national team coach, Joachim Low.

Hummels has made 116 appearances for Bayern so far, helping the club win three consecutive Bundesliga titles.
