Germany and Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo wants his former teammate James Rodriguez at Juventus, and is expecting the Colombian to make the move to Italy.
Rodriguez has been at Bayern for the last two seasons when he moved there on loan from Real, and will now return to the Spanish club as the Bundesliga champions are not going to sign him on a permanent basis.
Matthaus, who won multiple trophies with Bayern Munich and Germany, claimed that the Colombian international could end up moving to the Serie A champions as Ronaldo was keen on teaming up with him again.
He told AS, “We had a conversation two weeks ago, during the celebration of Bayern’s Bundesliga win. I see him at Juventus.
"He is very close to Cristiano Ronaldo and told me that he was in contact with him and that he has told him that he wants to have him at Juventus. I understand why as James can serve Ronaldo so that he can score and the two of them can shine.”
James Rodriguez has not had a great time since his move to Real Madrid, when he transferred to the Spanish club following a good 2014 World Cup. With coach Zinedine Zidane having already signed five players, Rodriguez is unlikely to find a place in the squad.
With Cristiano Ronaldo trying to help Juventus win the Champions League next season, the signing of James Rodriguez, who could come at a reduced price, would help him combine with a former teammate and create more goals.
