The manager of the Portugal national side, Fernando Santos has finally explained what happened that night in 2016 when Cristiano Ronaldo joined him on the sidelines during the Euro Championship's final against France.
Ronaldo came off injured in the 16th minute of that game after a clash with France's Payet that impacted his left knee. But there was another story relating to the then Real Madrid forward, which has now been shared by the Portugal manager, Fernando Santos.
The Juventus hitman was seen rallying down the touchline while being injured along with Santos who was so engrossed in coaching his team, that he forgot that the final whistle has been blown.

As revealed by AS, Santos said, "It's a brutal image. I was shouting for someone to take over on the left wing but Cristiano was punching me and said: 'Old man, old man! We've already won!' with Santos not realising the full-time whistle had been blown."
Now, along with the prestigious Euros crown, Portugal have off-late won the inaugural UEFA Nations League in incredible fashion, with 34-year old Ronaldo bagging a hat-trick in the semi-final, before Portugal came out eventual winners when they faced the Netherlands in the final on June 9 with Goncalo Guedes' strike on the hour mark to hand his country the Nations League title.
