A Premier League season can be very gruelling for every team, at both the top and bottom ends of the table. There have been some teams though that have managed to go a full season with very few defeats, and sometimes those teams went all the way to win the title.
As teams across the league have ever increasing transfer budgets and access to better players, staying undefeated, or losing very few matches in a season has become almost impossible.
Here are the six teams that suffered the fewest losses in a league season:
6. Leicester City - 3 (2015/16)
Leicester City stunned everyone in European football with their Premier League title win in 2015/16, especially considering they had to fight hard to escape relegation the previous season.
One of the reasons for their triumph was because they only lost three games in the entire campaign. They ended up winning the title by a massive 10-point lead but have since not managed to finish in the top six.
Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante played critical roles as they clinched the league title.
5. Manchester United - 3 (1998/99 and 1999/00)
Manchester United are another team that went two entire seasons with just three defeats, in 1998/99 and 1999/00. They were Premier League champions in both the seasons, staying ahead of Arsenal both times.
In 1998/99, they had to win on the last day of the season as they won the title by one point despite the Gunners putting up a spirited performance. In the 1999/00 season though, they cantered home to the title thanks to their 18-point lead over Arsene Wenger's men.
Apart from the league, they also won the FA Cup in both seasons and the Champions League in the 1998/99 season, securing the first treble.
4. Manchester City - 2 (2017/18)
Manchester City sprinted to the Premier League title with ease last season, scoring a mammoth 100 points in the process.
They still managed to lose two games during the campaign, one to Liverpool that ended their unbeaten run and the other to Manchester United that postponed their title celebrations.
Apart from those two losses, they drew only six games and clinched the title with a lead of 19 points over United in second place. City scored 106 goals in the season, a league record again.
3. Liverpool - 1 (2018/19)
Liverpool might not have won the Premier League title this season, but they can be proud of having lost only one game in the entire campaign. That loss came against eventual champions Manchester City, and caused them to finish second, missing out on the title by one point.
The 2018/19 season was easily their best performance in the Premier League era, having also scored a club record haul of 97 points, which is also the third-highest points total in league history, and the highest without winning the title.
2. Chelsea - 1
Another team that went an entire season with just one defeat was Chelsea in their first ever season under Jose Mourinho, as they went on to clinch their maiden Premier League title.
Mourinho drilled defensive solidity into the team and considering that it came right after Arsenal's unbeaten season, it was a fitting campaign to finally end their 50-year drought of league titles.
The Blues won the league ahead of the Gunners by 12 points, as they also ended the season unbeaten at home.
1. Arsenal - 0 (2003/04)
Arsenal famously went the entire 2003/04 season unbeaten, one year after manager Arsene Wenger was laughed off when he proclaimed it was possible to do just that. They won 26 games and drew 12, winning the title ahead of Chelsea by 11 points.
They were unbeaten throughout the campaign and no other team has been able to emulate that record so far. Naturally, they went on to win the title, which also happened to be their last league title.
