Chelsea midfielder Willian has claimed that what happens in the Europa League final against Arsenal will determine the success of their season, despite finishing third in the Premier League and reaching the Carabao Cup final.

The Gunners and the Blues go head-to-head in the Europa League final on Wednesday, with the former having a greater incentive to win as only a victory would ensure they qualify for next season's Champions League

However, Willian believes that Chelsea would want to win the trophy as only then can they call their season a success, having not won any other trophy.

“I know that it has not been my best season,” he told Daily Mirror

“It was okay, but it wasn’t top. I know I can play much better. Not only me, but the whole squad, it wasn’t our best season. We all know we can do better. But at the end we set some targets and we reached some of them."

"We reached the Carabao Cup Final, reached the third position in the Premier League and now we have the Europa League Final to play. If you see at the end and we win the trophy, then I think it’s been a good season. We have qualified for the Champions League and can win a European trophy which is a good season, even though we always want more,” he concluded.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea are able to add another European trophy to their cabinet, especially considering the outcome of the game could very well determine the future of coach Maurizio Sarri.
